OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – Just after 5 a.m. Friday Overland Park and Lenexa Fire Departments responded to alarms of a house fire with people inside on the corner of 95th Street and Knox Drive.
The home, sitting just back from 95th Street, required several fire trucks to fight the blaze.
First units on the scene reported smoke showing from the two-story, single-family home, with one victim trying to escape. Firefighters helped that man outside and were told of a second man still inside.
Firefighters found and removed the second man and dog out safely.
Firefighters then went to work attacking a bedroom fire on the second floor. It took crews about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Damage was contained to the room of origin and adjoining hallway. The entire upstairs of the home sustained moderate smoke damage.
Both men in the home at the time are being treated at a nearby hospital with minor to moderate smoke inhalation.
The dog is not hurt.
The home did have working fire alarms. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
