Opening a restaurant during the pandemic led to a slow start, but thanks to good food, friendly service and fair prices, 31 Bistro has weathered the storm and turned into a popular eatery in Wooster.
Boasting a menu that features nine different hot dog entrees, a slew of sandwiches selections and pizza, 31 Bistro has found its niche on the northeast side of the city at 1931 Portage Road.
“Our specialty hot dogs are our most popular items,” said bartender/server Amanda Jarrell, who has been part of the staff at 31 Bistro since it opened in 2020. “They are 100 percent pure beef , made locally at Beaver Meats (Smithville).”
Customers can order up a plain hot dog or try a Bistro Dog that is topped with fries, chili and cheese. The Extra Spicy adds banana peppers and jalapenos.

Plain or fancied up, 31 Bistro makes to order
A Buffalo Dog is made with bleu cheese and buffalo sauce. The Hungry Man Dog comes with chili, bacon and onions. A Pizza Dog features shredded mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce and pepporoni.
A Bacon Bleu Dog comes with bleu cheese sauce and bacon, and the BLT Dog is served with bacon, lettuce and tomato with a dollop of mayo and celery salt. The Chicago Dog is covered with sports peppers, tomatoes, a pickle spear, mustard and celery salt.
For those hungry for something other than hot dogs, Jarrell recommends the Philly cheese steak sandwich, which is another popular item.
‘Ain’t nothing small about our portions’
“Our personal pizzas are also very popular,” she said. “They are unique, made with a thicker crust. We’re waiting on a new pizza oven.”
The sandwich board offers a selection of panini grilled sandwiches, including a bacon melt, a 3-cheese barbecued chicken, a cheeseburger melt or a ham and cheese.
A club sandwich, a BLT, a ham or turkey pocket sandwich, a French dip or the Philly cheesesteak are other offerings, as well as burgers, including a veggie burger and a buffalo chicken offering.
A soup and salad offering rounds out the menu, along with a selection of ice cold domestic beers and offerings from JAFB, also located in Wooster.
“People especially like our big portions,” Jarrell said. “There ain’t nothing small about our portions. Nobody should leave here hungry.”
31 Bistro is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
